"I'm Missing a Few Teeth... Are Dentures Right for Me?"

Regain Your confidence

A prosthetic device designed to replace missing teeth, dentures are often necessary for patients experiencing tooth loss due to injury or decay. Norwood Dental is the go-to for dentures in Norwood, MN for both removable dentures and permanent dentures that are clasped or bonded to dental implants.

Who is a Candidate for Dentures?

There are two types of dentures, full and partial. Most people who are missing more than half of their teeth are candidates for full dentures. Missing teeth can put pressure on your other teeth, resulting in further tooth loss. If you are missing several teeth and are expected to lose more in the near future, your dentist may recommend extracting your remaining teeth and fitting you for full dentures.

If you are missing less than half of your teeth, partial dentures or dental implants are more likely a better fit for you.

What Should I Expect When Getting Dentures?

If you are a candidate for full dentures, your dentist will begin by removing any remaining teeth. Once your gums have healed up, you will return to the office to get fitted for your dentures. When you get fitted for your dentures, your dentist will take precise measurements and molds of your mouth and gums to ensure that your dentures are efficient and fit your mouth perfectly.

If you are getting fitted for partial dentures, your mold will include the rest of the teeth in your mouth to ensure that the partial dentures fit perfectly with your other teeth.

How Do I Care For My New Dentures?

Your dentures will require care in order for them to last and maintain their effectiveness. There are several things you can do to take care of your denture:

  • Remove your dentures after eating: After eating, remove your dentures and rinse off any food particles.
  • Brush your dentures daily: You can take care of your dentures by brushing your dentures daily with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Be careful not to bend the plastic or damage the clasps when cleaning.
  • Soak your dentures overnight: Your dentist will recommend an overnight solution in which you can soak your dentures overnight. Remember to rinse your dentures thoroughly before putting them back in your mouth!
  • Clean your mouth: Even if you have had all of your natural teeth removed, you will still need to maintain your oral health. Brush your gums and the roof of your mouth with a soft-bristled toothbrush after you remove your dentures, taking special care to remove any denture adhesive.
  • Make regular visits to your dentist: One of the best things you can do to take care of your dentures is to make sure you visit your dentist at least twice per year. Your dentist will examine your mouth and your dentures to make sure that both are in top condition!
